About me

My name is Stefanie Sendelbach. I am a native German freelance translator for the language combinations English-German and Chinese-German. Please feel free to visit my website at www.ssendelbach.com.

Education

Between 2000 to 2007, I completed my university studies at the School of Applied Linguistics and Cultural Studies of Johannes Gutenberg University, Mainz (FASK Germersheim) to become a Diplom-Übersetzerin (equivalent to an MA in Translation Studies).

Experience

I have been working as a freelance translator since 2000. Since then, I have translated more than 1.5 million words.

- BDÜ (Bundesverband der Dolmetscher und Übersetzer e.V.) is the largest professional association of translators and interpreters in Germany. It represents the interests of all professionals who have been admitted to membership, based on their qualifications.

Document translation

Document translation refers to the translation of documents (usually generated in text editing programs such as Microsoft Word).

Software and website localization

Software/website localization refers to the process of adapting the language (within a software or website) for a specific country or region. Thanks to years of practical and theoretical (my degree dissertation was on HTML and PHP in website localization) immersion in this field, I am an experienced and confident localizer.

Proofreading

Besides translation and localization services, I also offer proofreading services. During proofreading tasks, the quality of the target language text is checked and improved, if necessary.

DTP

DTP (Desktop Publishing) services are needed to create/prepare documents for publication. I work with QuarkXpress, InDesign and FrameMaker, and I also offer Chinese DTP services in these programs.
